Generational Differences in Yezierska’s Bread Givers Anzia Yezierska’s most-taught novel, Bread Givers, is an extensive observation of relationships in an immigrant family of early 20th century America (Sample 1). Noticeably, one of the most fascinating qualities of Yezierska’s work is that, though most readers probably come from significantly different backgrounds than that of her characters, she writes in a manner that allows her stories to be discussed in contemporary terms, (Drucker 1) while simultaneously illustrating the immigrant experience. Particularly, this phenomenon can be seen in her portrayal of certain generational conflicts. Often, they are coined the divided generation, as opposed to the heroic first generation who usually resists assimilation altogether. In Bread Givers, Reb Smolinsky is a patriarchal father, representing traditional Jewish ways (Drucker 1). Throughout the novel, it seems that he encompasses every aspect of a man embedded in traditional culture. In other words, everything that he does is rooted in the past, showing his first generational resistance to assimilation. In his constant refusal to assimilate, Reb Smolinsky becomes a symbolic representation of the Old World. On the other hand, his daughter, Sara Smolinsky has breathed heavily on the New World’s aura (Sample 1). Certainly, her actions throughout Bread Givers are consistent with the nature of second generation immigrants in assimilation. The course of history would be forever changed from the time period of 1750 to 1840. Throughout this time many changes in technology, changed the way americans lived their day to day life.All of these revolutionary changes that impacted millions of people s lives are thanks to the industrial revolution. This enormous movement known as the industrial revolution first started out in Great Britain later on spreading to the western world in the following decade. The Industrial revolution is considered a great change in human history due to the many positives it has brung to the western society in particular. For example when Otto states that â€Å"France is in the race to industrialise† he means that France is â₠¬Å"racing† against other countries to see who can achieve the newest technology available to them at the time. To carry on the creation of newer technology is what made the western world interested in the industrial revolution. These newer technologies included things such as iron making, steam power, and textiles. These new inventions sparked the interest of the western world, particularly the US because of the faster production rate speed for any goods or products. For example a textile machine would be able to spin and produce cotton over forty times faster than a human possibly could. Another example of a technology would be the newfound invention of steam power, with steam power humans could rely on transportation such as trains that operated on steam. With all of these new technologies that could possibly put an end to manual labor the western world was enticed to bring the industrial revolution and its technologies overseas to the U.S. . Once the technologies of the ind ustrial revolution came overseas to the U.S. the positive changes seen were immense. After technologies such as the textile machines were implemented the immediate response of the U.S. was to implement these new machines into factories where the use of manual labor wouldn’t be needed as much.

The Crusade for Equal Rights in the United States Essay

The struggle for equal rights has been an ongoing issue in the United States. For most of the twentieth century Americans worked toward equality. Through demonstrations, protests, riots, and parades citizens have made demands and voiced their concerns for equal rights. For the first time minority groups were banding together to achieve the American dream of liberty and justice for all. Whether it was equality for women, politics, minorities, or the economy the battle was usually well worth the outcome. I have chosen articles that discuss some of the struggles, voyages, and triumphs that have occurred. The people discussed in the following articles represent only a portion of those who suffered. Segregation impacted blacks, especially in the South, on a daily basis. As opined by Collier (2015), Remuneration policy is mainly linked with employee performance. The human resource management of TESCO has developed the remuneration policy as the motivational factor. The HRM considers that employee performance can be developed by providing them with certain benefits. The benefits are both monetary and non-monetary. While developing the remuneration policy, the HRM of TESCO also pays the attention employee performance. Thus, the benefits are added to remuneration policy of the company. It is observed that reward methods are linked to the employee performance at Tesco. For example, TESCO sets certain targets for its employees that encourage the employees to achieve their individual goals. On the achievement of the target, each employee is rewarded with special benefits. It is evident that the employees at Tesco perform tremendously. Apart from the gross salary, some other benefits such as car benefits, healthcare benefits, and security benefits are also added in the remuneration framework. More than three lacks employees would be awarded for their performance. In order to reach the financial target for 2016 the employees have played a major role. As a result, the CEO has decided to reward all the employees for the best endeavor. The remuneration framework developed by TESCO is also based on employee performance. Thus, there have been certain benefits associated with the remuneration framework that can be gained by both employees and organization. The remuneration framework developed by TESCO is tied with the employee performance (Tesco, 2014). The organization has developed the remuneration policy in such a way that helps the individuals or the employees to achieve their individual as well as organizational goals (Sarasa-Maestro, Dufo-Lpez Bernal-Agustn, 2013). The employees are provided with optimal benefits that encourage them to perform effectively. This helps them to achieve the developed goals. Conclusion The article entirely deals with initiatives taken by the CEO of TESCO for managing the remuneration policy regarding the betterment of an organization. It is observed that employee satisfaction somehow depends on the reward and benefits provided by the organization. This particular article is primary based on the remuneration plans and policies of TESCO.
